The Invisible Mentor Week in Review: February 16 – 20, 2015
I am almost at the finish line of Sarah Arrow’s 30 Day Blogging Challenge, and I am astounded by how much I have learned so far. This tells me that even though I may have been doing something for a long time, there is always room for improvement. In the next couple of weeks, I will have been blogging for six years, and yes I know a lot about blogging, but I do not consider myself an A-List blogger.
One of the reasons I enjoy the challenge are that the prompts I receive each day adds context. The prompts are daily reminders that encourage people to take action. I am a very self-directed person so I am not surprised that I have come so far on the Blogging Challenge. But the way that Sarah and Kevin Arrow host the event tells me that there is a lot that I have to do to run The Invisible Mentor Reading Challenge to get better results.
Monday – Do you read broadly enough?:
If someone wanted to start reading broadly, where would he start? There is no shortage of advice on the web on why it is important to read, and there are countless articles on which books to read.
But if you were reading to get an education, where would you start? Would you only read books in your niche? Or would you read other books as well? This post helps you to answer those questions and more!
Tuesday – When you need a little bit of inspiration!:
I was frustrated trying to create an infographic for my blog post, so I wrote this blog post the next day, including lots of quotes and inspiring images for the next time I am feeling frustrated.
Wednesday – The Wright Brothers and Mastering the Fundamentals:
By mastering the fundamentals in the field, the Wright Brothers were able to decide which path to take.
If you're new to a field, and mastering the fundamentals is your goal of building a strong foundation, the first step is to start reading up on the history of the field. You have to build a strong foundation on which to build on.
Thursday – The Art of Social Media by Guy Kawasaki & Peg Fitzpatrick, Book Review:
Like most people, I learned social media through trial and error and by reading articles.
Reading The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users by Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick filled in some gaps in my social media knowledge that I didn’t even know existed. One tip I really appreciated was to use Wisestamp to create your email signature.
Friday – Speed Reading: Collection of Articles to Help You Read Faster:
If you are interested in learning to read faster while increasing your level of comprehension, then you will love this collection of curated content on speed reading.
Although you will find some similar advice such as reading words in chunks, learning to stop sub-vocalizing and re-reading paragraphs, you will get other tips such as learning to distinguish between what’s important and not important in a book and learning to read actively.
