The Invisible Mentor Week in Review for January 27th to 31st
It’s the beginning of February and this month is Black History Month. I cannot believe that one month has passed already since the New Year started. In the month of January, we celebrated National Mentoring Month, so we profiled some of the men that Napoleon Hill used as invisible counselor (invisible mentors) – he imaged the qualities that he admired in them, as a way to rebuild his character. Let’s look at the Week in Review on The Invisible Mentor blog where we featured The Social Contract, Think and Grow Rich and Thomas Paine.
Monday: 7 Deadly Sins of Mentoring
It is National Mentoring Month, so my focus is still on mentoring. This article is focused on traditional mentoring, where usually a more senior person guides and advises a more junior one. Both mentor and protégé have a responsibility to each other. We also looked at the ingredients of a strong and successful mentoring relationship.
Tuesday: The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Review
The Social Contract is Rousseau’s treatise on the political foundation of the modern state, and he assumes the role of a philosopher. Rousseau referred to Plato, and if you remember, from The Republic of Plato, the book deal with an ideal city state, therefore, the two books have some things in common.
In celebrating National Mentoring Month, I wrote mini biographies of the men who Napoleon Hill – author of Think and Grow Rich, a timeless classic – used as invisible mentors. Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense, which influenced public opinion in favor of America’s independence from Britain.
Thursday: Roundtable of Invisible Mentors
In Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, he talks about invisible counselors, and I have extracted the information to write a blog post on Roundtable of Invisible Mentors. There was such richness in the information that I realized that there is a series of blog posts of which this is the first. The review of Think and Grow Rich is part two of the series, and to keep the momentum going, I will write posts on creating a roundtable of invisible mentors, starting a master mind, and one on organized planning.
Friday: Review of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill wrote about his invisible counselors. I have read that section of the book a few times, but this time around, I re-read the entire book so that I can place that section in relation to the entire book. I first read the book over 10 years ago, and I really disliked it. Since then I have read and listened to Earl Nightingale’s summary a few times and that was much easier to digest. I am in a different place now, and liked Think and Grow Rich a lot better this time around.
