The Invisible Mentor Week in Review for February 3rd to 7th

The editorial calendar is keeping me focused and on track, but I haven’t found my stride because I am missing spontaneity. I have to figure that out shortly so that I enjoy the process and not feel so regimented. Let’s shift our focus to look at the Week in Review on The Invisible Mentor blog where we featured All Quiet on the Western Front, Beowulf and Rosa Parks.Beowulf

Monday: Celebrating Black History Month – Reflecting on the Past, Back to the Future

February is Black History Month, and this year marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act. Black Future Month 3014 is an exhibit at Daniels Spectrum.

Tuesday: All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque #theclassics

All Quiet on the Western Front deals with the desolation of war, and it depicts the lives and deaths of eight frontline soldiers in the trenches of World War I. The theme of All Quiet on the Western Front is duty to your country. The soldiers are depicted as the lost generation, and their world of childhood, school and parents no longer have any meaning.

Wednesday: Creating an Invisible Mentor Roundtable #napoleonhill #invisiblecounselor

Napoleon Hill used invisible mentors, except he called them invisible counselors, to learn from. He wanted to rebuild his character so he emulated the behaviours and actions of those he greatly admired. Learn how to creat your own roundtable of invisible mentors.

Thursday: Mini Bio of Rosa Parks, “Mother of Civil Rights Movement” #blackhistorymonth

Rosa Parks is best known for refusing to give up her seat to a white man while riding a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She was arrested, and under the leadership of Martin Luther King Jr, the Montgomery Improvement Association organized a Montgomery bus boycott, which lasted 382 days, to end bus segregation

Friday: Beowulf, Book Review #theclassics

Beowulf, an epic tale published in the 8th century, is about the Hero’s Journey. Beowulf takes up the call because he seeks adventure and fame. The central theme of the book is that all of us are going to die  and we need to do great works.

Looking ahead to the week of February 10th – 15th I will continue to read the classics and celebrate Black History Month.

Monday: How to Organize and Use Knowledge. This is Part IV in the series of blog posts based on Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. Many people often say that knowledge is power, but I have always thought, like Napoleon Hill did, that it’s what you do with the knowledge that makes it powerful.

Tuesday: The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle, Review. Arthur Conan Doyle killed off the world’s most famous character, Sherlock Holmes, and the public response was fast and furious, so the author had to find a way to bring back the famed detective, and he does so in this book.

Wednesday: Mini Biography of Marcus Garvey. A civil rights activist, Marcus Garvey is among the national heroes of Jamaica. He founded United Negro Improvement Association in the United States.

Thursday: How to Create a Mastermind Group. This is the fifth part of the series of blog posts based on Think and Grow Rich. Some of the most successful people have a support network, a group of people who they can call on for advice. Members of Mastermind groups often generate their best ideas at meetings.

Friday: Season of Migration to the North by Tayeb Salih, Review. Season of Migration to the North by Tayeb Salih is his best known book, and is about two Sudanese men who have experienced the West and have returned home.
